How to: Ensure Location Data Collection


1) Users must give permission for GPS capture at the time they install the app. 

  • If they do not grant this permission upon downloading the app, the only way to change it is deleting the app and re-installing it.

NOTE: When the app is deleted, all data (including survey responses) are wiped off the phone. Only delete the app after they have pressed UPLOAD ALL (from the My Codes screen in the app) AND their data can be found on the website.


2) Even if location service permissions were granted on app installation, they could be turned off manually or automatically and need to be turned back on in settings. "Low Power Mode" could turn off location services, and the user could turn off all location services manually.

 

3) Currently, location data in the Flat Data File represents  the "last known" location on the device. This is most likely the location where they took the survey,  but if the location services are turned off when the survey was taken, then this data may represent a previous location.
