Audio Playback Questions
Feature Overview
mEMA allows you to include audio files within survey questions. This feature is ideal for studies involving meditation, relaxation, or any other audio-driven interventions. After participants listen to the audio, you can ask them follow-up questions regarding their state or experience.
Participant interactions with the audio player—such as play duration, pause/resume points, and skips—are recorded and included in the survey response data.
Uploading Audio Files to mEMA
From the "My mEMA" dropdown, go to "Survey Audio Files".
Select the survey you want to associate audio files with.
Click "Choose File" and select your
.mp3
file.Click "Upload File".
After upload, the file will appear under "Currently Uploaded Audio Files".
Audio File Requirements
Must be in
.mp3
format. Other formats will be automatically converted to.m4a
.Filenames should not contain special characters or be excessively long.
Example:meditation_audio1.mp3
- File size must not exceed 25Mb
Note: Audio files are survey-specific and must be uploaded for each survey individually.
Adding an Audio File to a Survey Question
From the "My mEMA" dropdown, go to "Create Surveys".
Select the survey for which you uploaded audio files.
Create or edit a question with "Single Selection" type.
In the Answers section:
Add the Short Text (e.g., “Meditation 1”).
Add a Code for analytics (e.g.,
MEDIT_1
).
Click the microphone icon next to the Short Text field.
In the popup, select the audio file you wish to attach.
The Short Text will automatically update to match the filename.
Click "Set Parameters" to save the question.
User Experience: Audio Playback in Surveys
When a participant reaches a question with an audio file:
Tapping the answer option will trigger the audio player.
The audio file begins playing automatically.
Users can pause, resume, or switch to other audio options if multiple are present.
Audio Interaction Data Output
After the survey is submitted, audio player activity is included in the Rapid Report as a JSON string within the answer cell.
To view only audio interaction logs:
Go to the Create Surveys page.
Click the microphone icon in the utility area next to the survey.
This opens a summary view of all participant interactions with audio players.
