mEMA10 Getting Started Guide

 

Step 1 – Create Your Configuration Template

From the mEMA10 dropdown menu, select **Configuration** or click on the MX Cog button.

Click on the Edit button next to the Current Template then select the template you want to edit (if you have multiple study groups) then click **Load**.

Once the mobile code is set to '1234', you’ll know that you’re working on the template configuration.

Basic Configuration for Survey Taking

1. Enable **Debugging**.

2. Under **Misc Parameters**, enable: Dashboard Enabled, Messaging, and Debug On.

3. Under **Schedule Parameters**, configure availability windows for surveys:

   • **Prior** – time before the assessment.

   • **Window** – time after the assessment.

4. Set up reminders:

   • **Repeat Count** – number of reminders.

   • **Repeat Interval** – time between reminders.

5. Optionally, enable **Push Schedule Alerts** to replace local reminders with push notifications.

6. Under Survey Parameters Enable:

   • ** Auto Upload ** – to automatically upload data after completing a survey (triggered by the user tapping on the 'Done' button after the final question has been answered).

   • ** Close on Done ** – to force close the survey availability window after the participant completed the survey.

7. Enabled Logging:

• Leave everything enabled for Enabled Logging, any other features can be disabled

8. Click **Save Changes** when done. 

9. Exit the template by clicking the Close Template button. 

 

Configuration for Location Tracking

1. Open the **Location** section and select all checkboxes.

2. Set how frequently the location should be captured and choose the mode.

3. Select your preferred metric system.

Configuration for Garmin and Garmin Logging

1. Open **Sensor Parameters** and enable:

   • **Garmin**

   • **Garmin Acceleration** (optional because acceleration data can accumulate quickly)

2. Configure **Garmin Value Limits** (default values are fine if unsure).

3. To enable Garmin Logging (collect Garmin data while the mEMA10 app is closed):

   • Open **Garmin Logging** and check **Enabled**.

   • Set a **Fetch Interval** (recommended: 15 minutes).

   • Under **Logging Details**, select desired data types (some restrictions apply based on watch model).

Step 2 – Create Your Participant

1. Click **Create Account**.

2. Enter a **Screen Name** and select the appropriate study group.

3. Click **Create Account**.

4. When the account is created, you’ll see a confirmation notification. 

5. Select the participant account to view his configuration. By default when a new account is created the Configuration template from the group he’s part of will automatically be applied there’s no extra step needed to Save the config or re-apply the template. 

Note: When a participant account is created, the configuration template is automatically selected for the new user.

Step 3 – Assign Surveys

1. Select your participant. 

2. Click **Edit Schedule**.

3. Click the **Plus (+)** icon.

4. Choose the survey to assign and select the **Schedule Type** (Momentary, Repeating, Scheduled, or On Demand).

5. Set the **Start** and **End Date**, then click **Add Assignment**.

6. The new assignment will appear under **Assignments**.

Step 4 – Sync Participant Mobile Code

1. Download and install the **mEMA10 App** from the Google Play Store (Android) or the Apple App Store. A screenshot of a phone  AI-generated content may be incorrect.

2. Launch the app and allow all permissions (including location if required).

3. Tap the **Configuration (lock)** icon.

4. For **Enter New mEMA Code**, input the 8-digit participant code and tap **OK**.

6. For **Enter New Server Code**:

   • US for studies that are using – https://mema.ilumivu.com

   • EU for studies that are using – https://eu.mema.ilumivu.com


7. When prompted with “Really change mobile code…”, tap **OK**.

Step 5 – Start a Survey

1. Tap **My Assessments** in the app.

2. You’ll see all surveys assigned to you.

3. Icon meanings:

   • Green **Plus (+)** – survey can be started anytime (typically for On Demand assignments).

   • Red **Play ()** – survey instance window is open and can be started. 

   • No icons – survey is not currently available.

Step 6 – Download Changes and Upload Data

1. On the Home screen, tap **Transfer Data**.

2. To download changes made to the participant account, tap **Download**.

3. To manually upload data to the server, tap **Upload**.

Connecting Garmin Device to mEMA10 App

1. Enable the Garmin configuration setting and save the change.

2. Launch the mEMA10 app and download the configuration change.

3. Ensure the Garmin watch is in **pair mode**.

4. On the Home screen, tap the **Garmin** button, then tap **Set-up**.

5. Tap **Pair** next to the detected Garmin device.

6. Enter the pairing code and tap **Pair** (or tap **Pair** directly if no code is required).

7. Once paired, Garmin data collection will begin automatically.
